Universal Accessibility & Inclusion
We envision a barrier-free library that accommodates individuals of all abilities and mobility levels and are pursuing Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™.
Accessible Shelving
The central library features accessible shelving throughout, designed with minimum and maximum heights to ensure everyone can access the collection independently, without assistance from employees.
Gender Inclusive Washrooms
There are washrooms on each level of the library. The new central library will have gender inclusive washrooms. Each block of washrooms has individual closed-door stalls, including one accessible stall. The sinks, counters, mirrors and baby-changing stations are shared.
Universal Washrooms
There are universal washrooms throughout (individual toilets and sink), one of which includes an adult change table. The universal washrooms will be available for anyone to use. There are also family washrooms in the children’s area.
